From February 17- 19, the American Association of College for Teacher Education (AACTE) held their annual meeting in Chicago, Illinois. 

The meeting featured a number of major speakers and forums-all of which were well-attended despite the downtown Chicago location and warm-for-winter weather.  AACTE President and CEO Sharon Robinson and Board of Directors Chair Donna Wiseman opened the conference and welcomed a packed auditorium of attendees for the weekend.  The meeting highlighted two major speakers: Clay Christensen and Yong Zhao. In November 2011, Preparing and Credentialing the Nation's Teachers: The Secretary's Eighth Report on Teacher Quality based on Data Provided for 2008, 2009, 2010 was released, which focuses on national and key state-specific data. 

Due to the 2008 reauthorization amendments in the Higher Education Act (HEA) of 1965, the state reporting requirements and the content for the annual report changed.  As a result, there was a three-year transition period afforded to states in order to adjust their own data collection and reporting procedures.

The National Council on Teacher Quality (NCTQ) yesterday released the 2011 State Teacher Policy Yearbook, which reviews the state laws and rules and regulations regarding the teaching profession.  This year's Yearbook also includes progress ratings and comparisons between states on their progress on their teacher policies.  Included in the Yearbook are individual reports for each state and the District of Columbia as well as a National Summary.

Ensuring that teachers are observed fairly, with valid and reliable measures, is critical to the success of teacher and leader effectiveness programs.

National Education Association President, Dennis Van Roekel, today released a major new statement, Leading the Profession: NEA's Three-Point Plan for Reform. NEA's three-point plan includes:
