CCSSO and several SCEE team members worked closely with Learning Forward and other partner organizations to design and implement, Transforming Professional Learning to Prepare College‐ and Career‐Ready Students: Implementing the Common Core (TPL). Learning Forward spearheaded this project, engaging CCSSO along with the National Governors' Association, the National Association of State Boards of Education, and the American Association of Colleges of Teacher Education in collective work to develop a comprehensive system of professional learning with an immediate focus on implementing the Common Core State Standards and new assessments.

How the Project Unfolded

The Kentucky Department of Education and several school districts in Kentucky were key players in this effort. Additionally, six "critical friends states, Georgia, Illinois, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Utah, and Washington, contributed to this collective work. Learning Forward facilitated a task force of more than 40 members of the Kentucky education community to set a new course in statewide professional development standards tied to the Common Core State Standards. The task force collaborated with the TPL advisory council, critical friends, and Learning Forward staff to design materials, develop protocols, and identify strategies to sustain both planning and implementing professional learning systems and practices.

Resources from TPL

Resources and tools to assist states, districts, and schools in providing effective professional learning for current and future education reforms are found on the Transforming Professional Learning site. Examples of resources that will be particularly useful to state leaders are the three workbooks listed below. These workbooks are designed to help states as they work with local districts to plan comprehensive systems of professional learning.
