This week, SCEE provided two webinars with assessment experts and SEAs to talk about measuring student learning in non-tested grades and subjects (NTGS) for the purposes of evaluating teachers.
We are hosting continuing dialogue to dig even deeper into the issues with SCEE members in our Evaluation Discussion Group. (This is a private discussion forum for SCEE members; if you are a member but do not have access to this group, please sign into the collaboration site and request an invitation or contact Naz Rajput at nazr@ccsso.org.) Post your comments and questions in this discussion forum! Here are a couple new posts you might respond to:

Here is a compilation of some of the other resources on the SCEE site related to NTGS:
Webinars:
On Tuesday, August 14, we discussed Using Classroom Assessments with Jim Popham and Christopher Ruszkowski and on Thursday, August 16, we discussed Student Learning Objectives with Scott Marion, Laura Kacewicz, Jessica Brown, and Jessica Delforge. We encourage you to listen to these engaging webinars and to share the links with colleagues who want to learn more about the topics.
In addition, NTGS was a topic of discussion at our October 2011 Topical Meeting in St. Louis. We followed up the meeting with the November 2011 webinar, Continuing the Conversation about Educator Evaluation.
Earlier last year, Dr. Laura Goe of ETS had joined us on February 8, 2011, to dig deeper into the question of Measuring Teacher Effectiveness in Untested Subjects and Grades.
SCEE members may use these webinars in your work. If you need help accessing the recordings, contact Naz.
Readings:
Additional in-depth and useful readings are in the Non-Tested Subjects & Grades sub-folder of the online Evaluation File Folder, including:
- Approaches and Considerations for Incorporating Student Performance Results from Non-Tested Grades into Educator Effectiveness Determinations
- A Survey of Approaches Used to Evaluate Teachers in Non-Tested Grades and Subjects
- Evidence From Classroom Assessments
- Student Growth Percentiles and Shoe Leather
- Comments from Members and Friends: The Use of Students Test Scores to Evaluate Teachers
Blogs:
In addition to our current blog posts, we posted this one last year that provides insights from our November 2011 webinar presenters: Growth Models and Untested Subjects and Grades: Recap of the November SCEE Webinar.
Discussions:
SCEE members have access to several discussion threads on the topic. The current discussion threads are in the Evaluation Discussion Group. SCEE also hosted a lively online discussion with presenters from two of the webinars listed above; members may go to the SCEE Overall Discussion Thread to check out the great questions and substantive comments.
We would like to keep providing additional resources on NTGS if this is of interest. If it is, let us know! Post a comment to this blog or send us an email letting us know that you want more, and--even better--what specific kinds of questions or needs you still have or which states you most want to work with.
