On August 16 and 17, Implementing the Common Core Standards (ICCS) will hold a meeting for member states in order to continue providing support as states prepare to implement the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). In addition, it will provide an opportunity for early adopters to share their progress. This meeting is the last in the current membership year, so participating states will receive additional information regarding signing up for next year at the meeting.

This year's featured speaker is Dr. Robert Marzano who's presentation is entitled "Transitioning Curriculum to the Common Core State Standards."  Much of the discussion during this meeting will involve the next steps after adoption to full implementation of the CCSS and the important curricular and pedagogical (including how professional development is involved) approaches which are evolving.

The meeting will also explore some of the following topics:

  • Supporting Classrooms in 2014-2015
  • A Message from the New Teacher of the Year
  • Federal Policy and Advocacy
  • Transitioning to New Assessments
  • Connecting Career-Ready Standards to the Common Core

In addition, state teams will have time to work together as well as participate in cross state team time to discuss and further develop their plans.

SCEE is a supporter of this work. SCEE and ICCS work in complementary roles to make sure that every student is prepared for college and careers. Both consortia are strong supporters of cross collaboration, integrating state's systems of practice, and ensuring that members have the resources they need in order to do this work.  As part of the benefits of being a member of ICCS, coaches, much like the Educators in Residence, are available as resources and supports of CCSS implementation within and across their regions.  In addition, at the upcoming SCEE Topical Meeting on September 27-28, ICCS will be addressed in a principal panel.

Starting in the 2012-2013 membership year, ICCS will begin offering Topical Meetings.  Additional information will be forthcoming.  They will wind down the 2013 membership year with a Summit on Special Education and CCSS Implementation in June, 2013.
