Starting
June 1, Deb Delisle became the Assistant Secretary of Education for Elementary
and Secondary Education at the U.S. Department of Education, leaving her
position as an ICCS coach vacant.
Therefore, we want to take this opportunity to welcome Judy Jeffrey as
the newest ICCS Coach.
ICCS is fortunate to find a wonderful replacement to Deb in order to serve as a coach to New Hampshire, Nevada, Oregon, South Dakota, and West Virginia through at least the end of this program year of ICCS on September 30. Judy Jeffrey has agreed to work with CCSSO as a senior consultant coach to support these states with implementation efforts.
Judy served until 2010 as the Director of the Iowa Department of Education. While a chief in Iowa, Judy was recognized by Governor Culver as being "instrumental in implementing our state's core curriculum and creating our statewide preschool program. In these difficult economic times, Judy has done an outstanding job leading this vital department and protecting the progress we have made in educating our children. Judy exemplifies what it means to be a public servant." Prior to serving as chief, Judy was an elementary teacher and a district assistant superintendent.
Judy also currently serves on CCSSO Board President Tom Luna's Presidential Taskforce on Educator Effectiveness. She co-authored the white paper, "Transforming Teaching and Learning: A Vision for a High-Quality Educator Development System" (2010). Judy is a dynamic leader and she is trusted among her peers and colleagues for the vast experience and wisdom she will bring to this position as states continue implement and plan for the upcoming August 16-17 ICCS meeting in Seattle, WA.
SCEE will offer a webinar on September 11 from 2:00 - 3:30pm EDT to discuss issues and considerations with implementing the Common Core. Keep an eye out for specific details concerning this event as the date approaches.
