Watch the SCEE featured video to find out how three State Teachers of the Year answered the question "What is your vision for educator preparation?" at the SCEE September 27-28 Topical Meeting on Educator Preparation in Charlotte, North Carolina. The three teachers who share their vision in the video are:
• Paul Gray, 2008 Arkansas State Teacher of the Year,
• Mary Schlieder, 2008 Nebraska State Teacher of the Year, and
• Chad Miller, 2012 Hawaii State Teacher of the Year.
Sixteen current and previous State Teachers of the Year participated in the topical meeting in order to provide input on policy recommendations from the Educator Preparation Taskforce. The final version of the recommendations will be presented at CCSSO Annual Policy Forum in November.
The National Teacher of the Year Program promotes teacher voice through the professional development experiences offered to State Teachers of the Year. Sponsorship from the Pearson Foundation allowed these State Teachers of the Year to attend the topical meeting and productively engage in exercising their teacher voice in order to contribute to policy work.
SCEE plans to continue to infuse teacher voice in meetings as an important element of educator effectiveness initiatives.
